A Living, Breathing Instrument for Modern Sound Design
MOTION is all about—well, motion! Its core is built around one simple but powerful idea: movement - either sculpted intentionally through the instrument’s interface or emerging organically from the sound sources. Whether you’re after vast, evolving textures or minimal, atmospheric ambiences, MOTION offers a vast palette for composers and sound designers alike.
Its Interface features a central XY Pad, allowing you to seamlessly crossfade between four layers. Each layer can be filled with over 100 sound sources, from orchestral recordings to carefully crafted synthesized sounds.
These sound sources gradually change, morph, and evolve in texture or playstyle, making every note feel like a unique performance. Imagine a cellist holding a single note—shifting timbre, dynamics, and articulation in real time. That same organic movement is brought into every sound source on every Note available in MOTION, making every note feel like a unique performance.
There are two main types of sounds sources: Swarm and Cloud sound sources.
- Swarm sounds are characterized by small impacts that occur randomly, varying in density and frequency—similar to a pianist repeatedly playing a note with irregular timing, gradually increasing
- Cloud sounds on the other hand, are defined by smooth, evolving swells that can be either short or long—similar to a string player sustaining a note while varying the dynamics.
Every control, parameter, and function in MOTION is designed to enhance and deepen its ever-changing behavior, giving you precise control throughout the sound design process.
Each layer offers three independent play modes:
- Pad — The sound source is played back as recorded, without additional processing.
- Beat — A time-synced volume modulation is applied to the layer, adding a rhythmic dimension.
- Arp — The sound source is played in a time-synced arpeggio pattern.
Since these play modes can be individually assigned to each of the four layers, MOTION allows for the creation of complex polyrhythmic patches—unlocking rhythmic possibilities that are difficult to achieve with other instruments.
For those who want to dive in quickly, MOTION also includes over 200 factory presets — each one a unique starting point for cinematic atmospheres, experimental textures, or rhythmic pulses.
